Daemeter Consulting is a leading, independent research and consulting firm promoting responsible management of forestry and agricultural landscapes in Southeast Asia. Daemeter is based in Bogor, Indonesia, and works with private sector, government, and civil society partners to overcome practical challenges to implementing sustainable practices in natural resource industries. Daemeter seeks an experienced GIS and remote sensing analyst (GIS-RS) to fill a new post as Senior GIS Remote Sensing Analyst in its Indonesia office. The position is available immediately, for a period of two years with option to extend.
The analyst will be required to design and implement GIS-RS projects related to land use planning, ecosystem services (including carbon accounting), terrain mapping and forest management that will include the development of techniques and models to meet client needs. In addition the analyst will be expected to provide general GIS-RS support for a broad range of current and future projects, including identification and management of High Conservation Value Areas for planned development projects; mapping of natural ecosystem types and other land cover types; policy recommendations for implementation of low emissions development planning; and support for due diligence by the private sector to screen potential investments for biophysical suitability. The job is mainly desk-based, with a field-work component of up to 25% of time (though less for periods). REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in remote sensing, geography or related discipline; or Master’s degree plus at least three years top professional experience. An applicant will be required to demonstrate he/she can work independently or as part of a team and ability to meet challenging deadlines, an excellent understanding of the theory and application of GIS/RS techniques including an ability to create models, scripts, and workflows, and excellent written and oral communication skills (English). Experience in Indonesia and understanding of issues related to sustainable forestry and agriculture are preferred, but not a requirement.
